Incident Command for Schools

"There is nothing training cannot do. Nothing is above its reach.

It can turn bad morals to good; it can destroy bad principles and recreate good ones; it can lift people to angelship."

Mark Twain

Angelship (for our purpose) means great leadership.  When an emergency strikes a school or school children, only great leadership can enable the people involved to survive the disaster.  The Incident Command System (ICS) is the foundation of that great leadership.  Using ICS, you can provide a foundation of support for the students, the staff, and the parents and also, provide for continuity of school system operations.

Continuity of Operations (COOP) is the key phrase in business survival during an emergency incident.  Keeping our people safe and preserving the business and its records is your primary mission.  The Incident Command System (ICS) is a critical part of this process.  Effective management and leadership during a crisis is always the difference between success and failure in your COOP.

School systems, large and small, throughout the nation are learning and preparing to use The Incident Command System.  School representatives should be active participants in the command process for their knowledge of the people, the building, and the hazards within.  Schools should use ICS to manage ongoing operations during and following an emergency incident.

The OurTown Diorama Incident Command Simulator is an ideal means to gain that incident command experience in a positive leaning environment.

Please contact the Incident Management Team to schedule an OurTown Incident Command event in your community.  OurTown classes can include a single agency or multiple agencies which will bring together all the response partners.
